In the European Union and many other countries, privacy laws have been around for at least a decade. This is not true in the U.S. With the exception of a few sectors, notably health care, the U.S. has not produced a national privacy law.

Nevertheless, privacy, as a political issue, is very popular. This has forced some state legislators to pass their own versions.

We compare the five different state laws to date.
